Term 4

I am looking forward to another term with 2S! We have many exciting things happening!

Human Society and its Environments

Our Human Society and its Environments unit for term 4 will be ‘Our Stories’. The students will develop an understanding and appreciation for heritage.  We will discuss how important family heritage is; identify Australian Aboriginal heritage; we will classify artefacts used by Aboriginals and investigate how these are utilized; discover heritages within our class and the significance of these.

English

Our writing program for term 3 will be focused on developing our descriptive writing skills.  Students will have the opportunity to write literary descriptions on a range of topics, including the HSIE unit. Reading groups will continue this term on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.15 – 9.45.  Literacy activities will continue afterwards which will incorporate comprehension, grammar and spelling activities till 10.30.  If you are available to help, please place your name on the parent roster which is on the classroom door.

Maths

We will be focusing on Recording Mental Strategies for Subtraction; Exploring Fractions; Connecting Multiplication and Division; Exploring Area and Volume; Conducting and Interpreting Experiments Involving Chance.  The last few weeks of term will be used for revision.

Homework

Homework will resume in week 1 and end in week 7.  Week 8 and 9 will be used for revision and end of term assessment.

Child Protection

Stage 1 will be discussing Child Protection topics according to the NSW Syllabus.  During these class discussions, if parents have any concerns regarding these topics, please don’t hesitate to see me.

Sport

Class sport continues to be on Friday from 11.35 – 12.15pm.  They will be playing a variety of team games, such as soccer and cricket, which aim to consolidate fundamental movement skills and develop skills for year 3 PSSA sport.  Sports Pro is on Wednesday, with a focus this term on dance.  Please ensure that your child wears his/her sport uniform on both these days. Swim School will commence week 5 from 11.30am - 1.20pm and will run for 10 days. Students must wear full PE uniform and bring their swimming costumes, goggles, and towel every day.  The swimming pool is outdoors, so please put sunscreen on your child prior to school.  If your child has long hair they must tie it back.  Parents will be invoiced in the Term 4 accounts.

Music

The class will continue to learn the recorder.  Practice will occur on Mondays and Fridays.

Talking and Listening

We will begin impromptu speeches every second week (even week) this term from week 2 to week 9. The Impromptu speeches will be presented on your child’s news day.  These speeches are only going to be for 1 -2 mins on various topics selected at random.  Weeks not marked for speeches will be “free” news time.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to come and chat or you can email me and I will try to reply within a day or so.
