Term 4
Welcome back to Term 4, I hope you all had a restful holiday! 2C will be involved in a packed full of fun and exciting learning experiences this semester. The following is a brief indication of what your child will be learning in this term.
English
Our writing program for this semester will be focused on developing our descriptive writing skills. Students will have the opportunity to write literary descriptions on a range of topics. Comprehension, grammar and spelling will be a very important part in their writing and will be done several times during every week. There will be a pre and post spelling test every Friday.
Mathematics
Students will be involved in developing thinking strategies, mathematic skills and concepts through a hands-on approach. They will be focusing on recording mental strategies for subtraction, exploring fractions, connecting multiplication and division, exploring area and volume and conducting and interpreting experiments involving chance. Students will also be involved in Mathematics revision at the end of term.
COGS
This term years 1 and 2 (stage 1) will be completing a unit of work- “Our stories”. Students will develop an understanding and appreciation for heritage. Through discussion, students will understand and appreciate the importance of family heritage and discover the different heritages within our class and their significance; identify Australian Aboriginal heritage and the artefacts used by Aboriginals; values related to intercultural understanding through participation in a variety of learning activities.
Literacy Groups
Guided reading will be once again held every week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Students will be involved in small groups working collaboratively on a range of different texts. If you are able to assist with guided reading please put your name down on our ‘parent helpers list’ located on my front door or contact our parent helpers.
Child Protection
Stage one will be discussing Child Protection topics according to the NSW syllabus. If parents have any concerns regarding these topics during term, please do not hesitate to email or contact me.
Homework
This term homework will commence in week 1 and end at the end of week 7. Homework will be sent home each Monday and is to be returned completed by Friday.
Sport
Grade sport continues to be on Friday’s from 11.35 – 12.15pm. Students will be learning skills and games which will culminate for year 3 PSSA sport. Sports Pro has changed from Tuesday to Wednesday before recess and will be focusing on Dance this semester. Swim school will commence week 5 from 11.30am till 1.20pm, and will run for 10 days. In these weeks (weeks 5 and 6), students are to wear their full sports uniform and bring their swimming costume, towel, costume, sunscreen and goggles. Students that have long hair must tie their hair back. Students may bring a swimming cap if needed. Parents will be invoiced in the Term 4 accounts.
Music
This term in Music, Year two will continue to learn the recorder on Monday and Friday afternoons before lunch.
Talking and Listening
This term we will begin to do impromptu speeches. Impromptu speeches are to be presented every two weeks, starting in week 2. Students will present their impromptu speech on their news day. The impromptu speech requires a maximum duration of 2 minutes and will be on various topics chosen at random. We will be focusing on voice projection, eye contact, and information that is presented. Weeks not marked for impromptu speeches will be ‘free’ news time.
